Modifying Backup Valve On A Polaris 360

Our Polaris 360 seems to always get stuck on one bend of our stairs.

All adjustments to the thrust valve seem to just have it getting stuck in the same place.

It has plenty of power and gets up all the walls and when the backup valve fires it will easily lift the 360 near the surface of the water.

Looking at the backup valve, it seems to always just pull the 360 against the stairs, not really doing anything and leaving the unit stuck.

I'm curious if adjusting the angle that the valve fires at would get our 360 unstuck. I was thinking of doing a 45 or 90 degree angle, just so it will put it away from the step, not against it.

Do you think this would work?

If so, do you have any idea what size tube I'd need for the 360's backup valve's jet?
