    Lots of dirt in pool

Not sure if this is in the right forum...

A few days ago, I noticed a bit of dirt on the bottom of the pool. No big deal. But this morning when I checked the pool, I noticed tons. We've not had any rain or wind to speak of so I'm not sure where it could have come from. Could this be a problem with the filter?

FWIW, our dirt is a fine red clay.

Well, it's either being pumped in or blowing in or falling in from somewhere.

How much is "tons"... an inch or so of dirt?

I'm interested to find out the cause, too. Kids throwing dirt clods?

I get dirt blown into my pool daily with the AZ winds. I just vacuum it up everyday.

Re: Lots of dirt in pool

48 hours of filtering and not a dent has been made in the amount of dirt in the pool. Ive had to backwash several times, so apparently the filter is catching some of it. What should I do?

btw- turns out my *14* yo threw a clod of dirt in the pool. *14*!

I know with a filter, you clean it. With diatomaceous earth, you can change it. I don't know what to do with a sand filter if that is what you have.

Yeah what kind of filter do you have? If it is a sand filter it may have a problem.

(The 14 would be having a problem for what he did. HE would be doing the work and NOT from inside the pool!)

Re: Lots of dirt in pool

Is there a way to tell whether the filter is sand or DE? We purchased the house last year so I am not the one that purchased the filter...

Kim- Yes! He will be on pool patrol for a long time!

post a pic. If it looks like a big egg, it is a sand filter.

    this is a de filter

and this is a cartridge filter

all of this is via google search. The only one i am sure of is the sand, because thats what I have. sOMEONE CORRECT ME IF i AM WRONG
25,000 gallon IG with vinyl liner. Not sure how old it is. Sand filter, not sure what brand/size, Hayward Super Pump c48k2n143b1. I have a Polaris 180 cleaner on it's last wheel (haha). I'm still not sure about water restrictions, but haven't gotten any hate mail about the amt I used last summer. I absolutely LOVE my TF-100 test kit.

sent from the device my boss pays the bill for, so I should be working instead of posting here
