    Levels to high

We are new pool owners and just started opening the pool for summer. We shocked it last night with a liquid shock that included algaecide and chlorine and I just tested it today and the test strips are saying
    PH 8.4
    Free chlorine 0
    Total alkalinity 240
    Stabalizer 300
All obviously to high except the chlorine. How do I fix this?

    Re: Levels to high

Well, you need to throw away the test strips and invest in one of the Recommended Test Kits so we can offer advice based on reliable test results.

Have you discovered Pool School yet? Start with these so we can speak the same language:
    ABCs of Water Chemistry
    Recommended Pool Chemicals
    How to Chlorinate Your Pool

    How does the water look?
We do not recommend the use of algaecides, etc.
