use of border protection pesticide

Hello!

Has anyone had luck using the kind of pesticides that you spray around your house and deck to keep bugs like ants from entering your pool? Example Ortho Home Defense.

I was thinking about spraying it around my patio just for a little control. We have some bright red and black ants that like to get in the pool.

Also, on one side of the pool the patio only goes out a couple feet to the edge of yard, would spraying that close to the pool be an issue?

I haven't tried it but it sounds reasonable, although it may just kill them after they get into the pool vs repel them. Could try some powdered sulphur from a feed/garden store - a lot of bugs don't like it (fleas and chiggers as an example) and it's pretty safe. Some claim it will repel snakes but I haven't had much luck with that.
