Funny we're on the topic because lawn mower maintenance is what I was into today. Had a fuel line start leaking, so I got some replacement line, new plugs, oil and filter, and I also need to either get new blades or bend one of mine back closer to its original shape. Apparently it won the battle with a root yesterday, but didn't come away unscathed.
I'm sick of cheap mowers and thin blades. I want a monster that has 3/8" thick blades that sound like a grenade going off under you when you hit a root!

I've never seen one that dirty, must less have one that dirty in anything of mine.

Back to the OP for a minute.... I read on another forum about the same line breaking problem. It was suggested to soak the line in water for a day or two prior to using the trimmer. Apparently the line dries out and becomes brittle- rehydrating it makes it more supple.

I tried it, because I was having the same problem. It helped.
