I have an inground poole with a single speed filter pump and a single speed solar booster pump. I want to replace the filter pump with a new variable speed type but leave the single speed booster pump as is. Will this create a problem when the filter pump is running on low speed and the solar booster pump comes on?

Why on earth do you want to do that? That would be such a waste of energy/money. For most installations, you don't need a solar booster. I run my solar on a two story house with a 1/2 HP pump.
Just bought the house and the 1/2 horse booster was already there. Maybe I need to re-plumb for the variable speed.
That is what I would do. My VS pump runs filter, waterfall and solar with no issues.
