What to do about these cracks on skimmer wall

When I opened our pool this year I noticed these cracks around the skimmer. Looks like it's just a crack in whatever covers the aluminum wall. Does this just happen over time? I'm guessing it's from expansion over the winter? Is it going to lead to bigger problems? Anything I should do? Thanks!

How does the wall feel on the inside? Looks like the paint cracked?

It's some sort of vinyl covering. Just not sure why it cracked like that or if I should try to cover it somehow. Figuring it can only get worse

That or start to rust. I don't know what to tell you on how to stop it from cracking. My first inclination is to pick at it and peel it but then it'd get ugly fast!
