We recently received 4 pool quotes in our area for pool resurfacing. We are really liking one company who so far has shown the best customer service and interest in giving us a nice lasting pool finish etc.This one we are thinking of going with is slightly above the prices of the other, but very close in cost other than needing a full chip out. Based on the below does that sound standard that a full chip out should be done given the state of our pool?
This particular pool builder has said we will need a full chip out. They tested this by scraping the spa near the step and pool near the step. When they did so it left a scrape mark and was not "hard" so they said it was considered "soft" and is not recommended to re-plaster unless the full pool is chipped out. Of course this is more in cost, but I just wanted some reassurance that it makes sense. None of the other PB mentioned this, but they also were not as informative.
We bought the house last year and pool was green (short sale) so we had a feeling a resurface would be needed in the near future. It has original plaster from 1989 and has Black algae and when we brush with wire brush the surface brushes off slightly like sand particles from the surface and black algae is in little divots in the plaster. There is no peeling or cracks in the surface, but surface is a little discolored.
Would you agree that a full chip out is recommended based on the above?
