Can you help me figure out what to put over the Spa's air intake line?

My mom just moved into a house and I'm trying to help her out. In ground gunite pool/spa. There's a 2" pipe stubbed up above the waterline. It's got a cap on it, and a slit. I'm assuming this is the suction for the spa. Do they make a cap or guard to put over the top? Any suggestions? There's gotta be something better than what they've got rigged up?

I called SCP to see if they had a fitting for this, and they said they didn't that most people just leave the end cut. I guess it's fine to just leave it exposed huh?

I'm not at my Mom's right now, but it's over next to the light junction box, just imagine a piece of open 2" pvc sticking up out of the ground the same height as the jbox.

My air intake has a 90 elbow on it probably to keep stuff from falling down inside. I cap it with an old spray paint can top to minimize the aeration.
