Hayward 244T sand filter PSI gauge won't stay on

I just received a new PSI glycerin filled gauge from TFTestkits. I wrapped the threads with teflon tape and screwed it in. I noticed that it didn't seem to tighten well after several turned unlike the old one I took out. I turned the pump on and seconds later, the gauge blew out. I tried wrapping more tape on it with the same effect. So I put the old one back on. Any recommendations on how I can get a tighter fit?

Most filters are 1/4" npt for that fitting. What kind of filter do you have. I am a minimalist concerning teflon tape.....3-4 wraps should be plenty.

No other reported problems with the threads of which I am aware.

The hayward multiport valves tend to be extremely fragile. Finger snug is all I ever tighten a gauge into them. It would be really hard to put a pressure gauge that is the wrong size in a valve, so I am betting that the valve is broken.
