Re: Caltreat... what are your current opinions

Seeing as how 6 years has passed, are there any new opinions on CalTreat? The calcium hardness of our concrete pool, equipped with a chlorine generator (salt cell), is 750 ppm. Our goal is to extend the life of the CL generator and draining/refilling is not in the budget. We have also kicked around the idea of installing a water softener, but I am skeptical about that method as well.

 Welcome to TFP!!!

No idea about Caltreat, but with your higher CH, if you keep your pH in check and in the lower 7s, you should not have problems with the SWG.

In IL, if you can harvest rain off your roof into your pool you should be able to lower your pool CH level. And really replacing water in your pool is not nearly as expensive as most people think it is.

Please add your pool details to your signature as described HERE as it will help us help you.
