    Saltwater Banned in Swimming Pools
    Daily News

SANTA CLARITA - Swimming pools that utilize salt rather than chlorine were banned Wednesday in Santa Clarita, where concern is growing that salts are polluting freshwater supplies. The board of the Los Angeles County Sanitation District for Santa Clarita adopted the new ordinance, believed to be the first of its kind in the United States. The move outlaws both new and existing salt water pools that feed local sewers. Is this True

Troublefree does not mean Maintenancefree. It's like brushing your teeth: You can spend a couple minutes a day and pennies a week or go to the dentist once a year and spend several thousand dollars.
A pool is like a pet - you have to feed it every day, even the days you don't want to play with it!

Interesting. How many pools discharge into the sewer system? Backwash to your ground instead?

    X 2 on Blizzle's and Dave's comments.

How about in a drought stricken state let people use their BW for irrigation if you don't want their salt?

Better yet, get a nice big cartridge filter and you will not have to backwash ever again. If it is really oversized you won't have to clean it but once a year. I have not cleaned mine in two years and I still have not hit the 25 % rise in pressure. I know this is not recommended but I have had no problems with flow so I just left it to do its job. I plan on cleaning it next week since I am now close to the 25% mark. I plan on documenting the cleaning with pictures and maybe a video to show how dirty (or clean) it is after two years of service.

    Re: True

    Tim,

I will let you know when I have it posted. I will be doing it next weekend. I am hoping that 2 years of pristine water and no slamming have paid off in terms of filter and SWCG maintenance. Over the winter I ran my SWCG 4 hours a day at 15% utilization so it was producing chlorine no problem after 2 years since the last inspection. It pays to keep your water maintained 24x7x365. Wish me luck!
