I am in the process of building a solar collector/heat for my above ground and it got me thinking.. I wondered if you could paint the outside of the aboveground pool black to help maintain the heat in the pool? Maybe a stupid thought but anyway to help with the heating of the pool would be awesome and it was just a thought. What do you think?

The sun beats on the bottom side of my pool and it gets so warm. I can feel the heat from the inside.

The vast majority of heat loss is through the water surface. I would put the money into a solar cover to keep the heat in at night. That being said it won't hurt and if you like the look that's a bonus. Just make sure you use a paint that is for outside and can withstand direct sun. I'd be afraid it would peel or blister if it was just indoor paint.
