    Deck concrete peeling

Hello everyone! We purchased a house with a concrete pool. My issue is that the concrete decking around the pool is flaking off horribly. You can take your shoe and move it back and forth over it and it flakes off. My fear is that my kids feet will really be torn up this summer if I do not fix it.

    Suggestions?

    Welcome to TFP!!!

Is the concrete flaking or is there a coating on the concrete that is lifting off? Pictures?

Likely something called Kool Deck or similar. The correct fix is to get it scraped off and then reapplied.

What is the best tool to scrape it? Orbital sander?

    Re: Deck concrete peeling

Without seeing any pictures, I would recommend a power washing of the deck. Get it nice and clean and free of any left over flaking as you describe. Then re-seal.

    Re: Deck concrete peeling

By scraping I mean removing anything that is loose, the power washing might get more of it ... or use a floor scraper

    Re: Deck concrete peeling

I would say a floor scraper or air chisel.

    Hi feb,
You may or may not need to remove the entire coating....
a pic is worth a thousand words. With pics we can have a better idea of how to advice you exactly.

    No idea,
But the best way to post pics is to download the pics to photobucket and then link the pic to your post.

    Re: Deck concrete peeling

After looking at the pic I would definitely power wash the deck.

    Re: Deck concrete peeling

Agreed, try to power wash first.
