Effect of light on chlorine degradation

Finally got my Stenner pump. It's hooked up to a 15 gallon drum I got free from a carwash. The drum is tranlucent and I have it under our deck, so it gets shade most of the day, but might get some filtered morning sun.

I've been using liquid chlorine, and I understand that higher concentrations of bleach degrade faster than lower concentrations due to heat. But what about light?

Sun light burns up the chlorine in a pool--------so why not stored in a translucent drum? Put a strip of tape on it, spray paint it, remove tape for a visual. Or just cover it.

You want the container to be opaque to UV light. Otherwise the chlorine in the container will degrade quickly in sunlight.

Thanks guys. Does it matter if it's not being hit by direct sunlight? Does scattered light (i.e. sitting in shade) still affect it?

Not as much, but if you can throw over an old sheet or anything that wouldn't bug you, it would be better.
