Welcome to TFP!

Walmart and big box hardware stores often carry CYA, though not always. It is variously called Stabilizer, cyanuric acid, and occasionally Conditioner (though other things are also called Conditioner). You want something that is 98+% cyanuric acid.

Back to Pool School for you, vinper. :D

CYA is necessary for correct pool management.....it's regulating the amount of CYA that gets into your pool where most problems occur. By far, the most common cause of too much CYA is overuse of pucks.

TFP does not frown on CYA use, it encourages it. TFP does frown on having too much CYA, or too much anything else for that matter. Yes, you can use pucks to increase your CYA level and then switch to bleach when you get there.
