Melting ice!

Ok, so I like opening my pool as early as possible. Love seeing the water and hate seeing the cover.

I went out, and the ice is still 5 inches thick!

Do you think the ice will melt quicker with the cover off and the sun hitting it directly?

Secondly, do you think the fact the sun is hitting the water will I get algae? I highly doubt it as the water is ice water but was curious.

I plan to fire up the equipment as soon as the ice is gone!

While it is technically possible to get algae at temperatures below 50 degrees, it almost never happens. Above 50 degrees algae rapidly gets much more likely.

A dark pool cover usually gives the fastest warming. Ice is too reflective to heat well without a cover, and evaporation is working against you without a cover.
