Should I use a salt system for an aluminum above ground pool?

    salt system for aluminum

Sure you could use a SWG on that pool. Are there any steel or resin parts ? I would just make sure it wouldn't void any warranty on it.

If the aluminum is exposed to water then you should connect the aluminum to a zinc (or magnesium) anode buried in moist soil to help prevent metal corrosion from the higher salt level. Aluminum is not as corrosion resistant as the stainless steel typically used in pools.

I was never aware the steel pool walls were, or at least could be, of the "stainless" type?

I've seen them where the panel for the skimmer and return fitting is stainless steel.

I don't know either, but I think cg meant SS components in general like hardware, handrails, etc.

Yes, for stainless steel I meant general hardware such as handrails and light rings.

Thanks for all the advice. I will have to check about the steel. The skimmer bolts are probably stainless would that be a problem?

I don't see a problem. All the hardware that comes with the pool should be SS.

    Re: salt system for aluminum

What brand pool are you looking at? Ours recently had a big limb fall on it and needs to be replaced. I found one that is built out of extruded aluminum panels. I have a SWG from our current pool and would probably continue using it. The one I read about has all stainless hardware which I think is important. Our pool came without stainless screws in alot of places and by the time I noticed it most of the screws could not be removed so they could be replaced. If I had to change the liner it would have been alot of trouble getting the top rail off. My concern with the aluminum pool would be that the top rails might get extreamly hot in the Texas sun.

Did you buy from Family Pool Fun? I am looking at their site and I like the pricing, but a little hesitant to order....
