12v or 120v lights?

I need to replace my pool lights and I'm seeing 12v and 120v version. I can't seem to find any pros and cons of one another beside an old thread about the debate the safety of 12v is better than a 120v but it was very murky.

Coincidentally, I just saw on the news not so long ago about a little boy being shocked to death in Florida. I have 2 small children that's going to be using the pool all the time and safety is my # one concern.

120 volt lights are reasonably safe, but 12 volt lights are safer. No one has ever died from a 12 volt light (which can't be said of 120 volt lights). 12 volt lights are usually a little more expensive, and sometimes require heavier wire, but those differences are not all that large.

12v lights are much easier to install with LED's becoming more commonplace.

With 12 v lights you will need to use a pool rated transformer.
For what it's worth I have 12 v lights in my pool.

The old standby are the Intermatic PX100, PX300, but there are plenty of brands out there to fit your application.
