SWG Shut Down during winter

As a new forum member, I apologize if this has been asked. Since my SWG will not produce chlorine when the temp is in the lower 50s and below, do you suggest turning the SWG off during the winter and simply following your TFP instructions for maintenance of non-SWG pools?

My SWG stopped generating today because of lack of power. I have determined it is the "black thing" people have discussed in other threads that has deteriorated and I'm ordering a new one. However, until I get it, can I simply shut it off and use the bleach method for chlorine...similar to what I did in the winter time when the water was to cold for the SWG?

Thanks
