Mortar or Construction adhesive for pool coping?

I realize the adhesive is much less labour intensive and that's probably why my pool builder prefers this method, but he said it's more practical in colder climates. Said it performs better than concrete through many freeze/thaw cycles.

Would love to hear your thoughts/experience with each?

Mortar seems to be the more popular choice with most builders, but construction adhesive is also an accepted choice. Construction adhesive does deal with freeze thaw cycles a little better, but properly done mortar can handle freeze/thaw perfectly well.
