Wanting to make an inground pool deep end more shallow

We currently have a concrete inground pool rectangle shape 16'x35'. The deep end is a pyramid shape 'pit' that is 8' deep at deepest point. We took the diving board out due to insurance issues. We are wanting to fill this pit end in and make it 5' deep and level. What are the steps that we need to do? If anyone has done this, do you have pictures or video on how to do that you can share. Any help or suggestions would be great.

    Welcome to TFP!

Reducing the depth of the deep end is quite possible, but will require some effort. The main drain(s), if any, need to be dug out and extended up to the new water level, rebar anchored in the existing walls at the new bottom depth, fill with heavily compacted dirt or gravel to the new sub-grade, pour concrete to form the new bottom, and finally re-plaster the entire pool.

To what thickness should the compacted gravel be (concrete thickness?)? Should the rebar be done in a 12" grid pattern or does it make a difference?

Gravel is for the fill. 4-6" of concrete above it.

    12' grid works just fine.
