Air leaks into filter

I have a Pentair pump and cartridge salt water pool system. When running it is just fine when it shuts down you can hear the filter softly gulping. When I start it back up there is a huge a mount of air bubbles pushed out the water jets in the pool. I have a check valve between the pump and the pool and I have replaced it. Do not see any water leaks when off or running. Any ideas??

Welcome to the forum. If you are getting air into your system, it is coming from the suction side of your system.......between the pump and the intake. There is an article in Pool School that should provide you some increased insight.
