Maybe I should have said 'tons' of rebar
 
The shallow end was a little too deep and the fall off too steep and too fast...
it was noticed in the rebar phase and was supposed to be taken care of during the gunite process.
But it took them longer than they expected to get as far as they did and it was too late to order more
material, the PB said not to worry they'll use cement to fix it. Here they go...






Finished a few days before Christmas.

Did an engineer design the structural part of this?

Did they use something to make sure that the pool didn't shift or settle? Something like piers, pylons or a retaining wall?

All of the above; the engineer required a footing that was wider (front to back) than the spill wall and it is over 3' deep.

Just to help it out...not that we knew it at design time, a good part of that trough had to be cut out of solid rock, shown here:







and then the wall also has overkill on the rebar (beyond local code and engineering specs)
