Winter prep

So my pool is closed, with a solid safety cover with a center drain. We have had 8 inches of rain since it was closed. I just purchased a submersible pump with an automatic on/off float. Am i ok just leaving it on one of the steps until we get a hard freeze? Advice please. Thanks

Yes, just make sure its at the proper level so the water can support the cover somewhat.
