    Smile Suntouch Control System

    Beginning install of a Pentair Suntouch.

    This is probably the first of hopefully not too many questions.

    Have a Goldline valve actuator with stripped wire only at the terminals of my Goldline Solar Controller.

    Ordered a 3 pin terminal. How is the terminal wired to connect to the Suntouch. Does the gnd black go to the middle pin?

    Thanks!

    I think I made what should have been a simple question complicated!

    What is the configuration at the 3 pin terminal end of a valve actuator? White black red, black red white, etc?

    Thanks.

    Re: Suntouch Control System

    There are 2 wires that carry +24V power to the actuator (one or the other, this determines the direction the actuator turns) and then a "ground" wire for the power to return.

    I am guessing that the black is the ground and would be in the middle and the other 2 wires could go on the outsides.

    I do not have the ability to put eyes on an actuator until this evening.

    The black wire is the common, but I have no idea what the pin assignments are.

    IIRC

    black = common
    white = one way
    red = the other way.

    from left to right white, red, black...

    As long as you get the ground right, the other two don't matter. The switch on the actuator will reverse the direction it moves.

    Forgot about this. Pulled my extra Intermatic out of the closet:

    Perfect!!

    Thanks very much.

    As I mentioned, I'll probably have more questions as I get going with this. So far, many of my questions have been answered by the other posts on the Suntouch subject.

    Note the pictures are an Intermatic. Is it safe to assume that the wire colors mean the same thing on a Goldline actuator? I don't know.

    Re: Suntouch Control System

    Yes, they are the same.

    I disconnected the actuator from the screw terminals on the Goldline solar controller, and wired the 3 pin connector, and it works fine.

    Haven't started the Suntouch yet, but must use the 3 pin since the Suntouch has no screw in option.

    Back again.

    I have the 3 pin connector. What's the secret for attaching the wire?

    I have a punchdown tool, but it will not work with this connector.

    Re: Suntouch Control System

    I doubt any of us have ever installed the connector. Looks like you just push the wires in.

    I've had to fix them before... I usually just use a small flathead screwdriver and push them into the plug.

    Re: Suntouch Control System

    I have the solar touch control. I think it's the same plug. It looks like the only thing that hold the wires in place is the pins. The wires go in one way and the pins are at a 90 angle barely holding the striped wire in place.

    Re: Suntouch Control System

    I thought there might be some kind of a tool like a terminal punchdown tool, but I guess just pushing them in by hand will work fine.

    Thanks!
