CYA test not working

Yes! You're right!

After I shook up the bottle, instead of coming out as a clear water-like liquid, it came out like a thick white cream!
I've added another 200mL to see how much the CYA will come up.

As it's a 4 litre bottle, even such a novice as I didn't use the full lot..!

Ah, nice to see a solution to the mystery! And, by missing the shake-the-bottle step the first time around, you were conveniently spared from adding too much CYA (per chem geek's post) -- sometimes a mistake works in one's favor.

Yes, the Instant Pool Water Conditioner is a slurry which means it will fairly readily separate. So you have to shake/mix the bottle before adding it to pool or spa water.
