Questions about closing a pool with or without a cover

We have a 20 by 40 rectangular pool (26,000 Gallons) and are trying to figure out what to do about our cover. We have a mesh cover that was ripping along the seams when we opened the pool. We recently tried to sew parts of it together when we noticed that many of the seams are coming apart. It's an old cover and we can't afford a new $3000 cover at this point. Would it be a good option to simply close the pool but not cover it (we live in PA)? Our pool is away from trees and fenced in. Or are there any others cheaper solutions for us to consider? Thanks in advance for your advice.

You don't necessarily have to use a cover. The only problem I can see with that is you'll have more debris to clean out in the spring. Wind blowing junk in and what not. It's fenced in also so your good there.
I'm not sure if there is any cheaper cover's out there. You would have to do some research on the internet.
If you haven't already take a look at the article in pool school on how to close an IG pool. ?
