Advice on replacement pump?

As i had mentioned before my pump seized up and just sits there and hums. I need to close my pool and planned on it over the weekend. Really bad timing as I am tight on money. The advice I got was just to replace mine since it was old. I know many suggest 2 speeds, but I really need something lower cost that will work.

This is what I currently have,

This is the one I am considering,

I can pick one up on Amazon for 318 with free shipping. I have a few quick questions if you guys don't mine.

1. Will this match up with my current piping?
2. Will it wire up the same way as the old, if not are the diagrams usually easy to follow.

Thank you very much!

There may (I lean towards saying "will" instead of "may") be some minor plumbing work to do the pump swap....This may go against the grain here, but Why not just replace the motor? I'd expect that would be even cheaper. Then when things improve financially you can do a full swap to a 2sp or VS.

If you do swap the entire unit:

Personally I'm a fan of Pentair over Hayward, but if it fits your price range I can't give you too much flak over it.

If you can't afford the 2spd. right now, then so be it. Gotta do what ya gotta do.

There's no telling what else could be wrong with the whole system. I too was trying to save a buck and replace just the motor, but the seal plate was cracked. So I ended up replacing the whole thing (single speed) with a vs pump. Cut off the connectors to the old pump and a couple unions later I was good to go!

Can you try this link?

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000FNAHCI/ref=ox_sc_act_title_4?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER

Its a Hayward SP2607X10 Super Pump 1-HP Max-Rated Single-Speed Pool Pump.

I am confused on the 2-speeds honestly. I read a bunch of threads on here about them but still couldn't figure out how it works. I read you always run the low speed, and only the high when flushing, or if the pool skimmer isn't working well and you have a lot of **** on top of the water? Is that correct? How much more do 2-speeds cost about?

Here is the rest of my plumbing,

Thank you guys so much!

Sounds like replacing an entire engine block when the valve cover gasket goes out...just because

You might be able to save money on both ends if you swap to a 3/4 hp motor vs the 1hp you have now....If you don't have a hot tub or water features. (I don't see a heater is why I bring this up) The 3/4 hp should cost less upfront, and it will use less electricity. looking @ amazon it looks like they want more for a 3/4hp...so I may be only 1/2 right on this one :p

Here's a pic of my installation. The red arrows are where i cut the 1.5 inch plumbing to save the screw-in connections (ribbed) and the unions to fit the 1.5 inch plumbing to and from the pump. That's how they say to run it, but I got a VS instead so I can set it for anyway I need (flexibility) You'll have to research prices. Pentair has a rebate on their vs pumps (think today might be the last day--confirmed).

The only problem I see you having is the connection from the pump to the valve/filter--that's pretty tight. Then again, you have the quick remove connection on the other side of the valve so if you have enough clearance to remove the whole thing from the the quick connection to the pump it should be pretty simple.

hmmm let me go back and see Yup, my google was not right But you can get the Pentair 340042 SuperFlo High Performance Energy Efficient Two Speed Pool Pump, at Amazon for $391 That seems to be the best I've seen.
Update: that one seems to be Gone. Google this and see what you can find: Pentair 340042 SuperFlo High Performance Energy Efficient Two Speed Pool Pump,

Timer,

As far as single speed pumps go, there is the Haward I posted before then a Pentair 340038 SuperFlo High Performance for a little less money, both prime free 2 day shipping. If you had to choose between the two which would you go with. Secondly, I do notice now with the 1hp that the vacuum doesn't have a ton of suction. Do you think moving up an extra 1/2 horse would be a good idea, or should these pumps run better than the 11 year old one?

The operation cost wasn't to bad and I ran the pump 24/7 pretty much all summer because I had so much debris and bugs in the pool. However the skimmer never seemed to pull stuff in that well either.

Thanks for the advice!

I had a choice a month or so ago. I chose a Pentair VS pump to replace my old single speed. That cost a lot more, but I'm really enjoying the flexibility. I could have bought another pentair vs for a couple hundred less, but I would have lost a lot of the flexibility. I didn't even look at a 2 speed. I would think either of the pumps you ask about would be better than our old ones were. But folks around here have a tendency to prefer the 2 speeds. That Pentair was the one I wrongly thought was a 2 speed. That is probably the best price you'll find for that pump.
