Hayward EcoStar Corrosion / Warranty Blues

My 16 month old EcoStar is making a terrible noise (sounds like a bearing went). I removed it from the pad in anticipation of taking it to a service center tomorrow, and I noticed that the motor cover is corroded. Anyone ever had this problem before? What's the cause?

FWIW, the warranty is quite confusing. I have four different answers from four different sources:

* Hayward Tech Line (first call): 1 year labor, 3 years parts
* Service center guy (after talking to hayward): 1 year labor, 2 years parts
* Hayward Tech Line (second call): 0 labor, 3 years parts if installed by professional, 1 year parts if self-installed
* Manual: 1 year "defects in craftsmanship" (no mention of labor vs parts).

Well, visible corrosion and a bad bearing ... sounds like your shaft seal started leaking. Had to have been awhile ago. May not be covered since evidence of a leak should have been visible long before the corrosion and bearing went bad.

Good luck, let us know the outcome.
