Intex stock cover

Is there any reason not to use the cover that came with my Intex pool instead of buying a "solar cover".
I recall using the stock cover on a smaller pool and it seemed to work fine to help keep it warmer. But maybe that was my imagination

The cover mostly just reduces heat loss to evaporation. So any cover will do that. If it is opaque, then you may not get as much heat added from the sun during the day, but would certainly help maintain the heat at night.

Well, I think I see why it is no good. It sinks. It's also weak so the tie downs break off at the slightest pressure (and there is a ton of pressure because the cover is half under water.
I will look for a real solar cover.

Update: with two people to pull the cover, it works just fine. Looking forward to extending our swimming season

My Intex cover only lasted 3 uses. The drawstring tore through the cover and I ended up throwing it out.
