This is my first post. We have a 1970s vintage gunite pool that is large, deep, and sits 10-15 feet from a very large downward slope. When we bought the house 2 years ago, we knew there was a leak and that there had been a crack in the past (that had been filled years ago). We discovered that the leak was in the skimmer box, so we had it hammered out and replaced. The repair person told us that as the soil below dried, we may see the pool settle, and that the old crack may re-open. The pool held water for 30 days, the old crack opened (hairline crack). We drained the pool, cut out the crack, had it injected and re-plastered. It held for a month, and opened again. We drained the pool and are looking for options.
I had a soils engineer come out and he saw no signs of meaningful slope creep, the pool is level, etc. He recommended Pool Engineering, which is a top structural engineering firm for pools. They said it's either a $50,000+ big shoring job (which isn't guaranteed to solve anything) or install a vinyl liner. He recommended a vinyl liner. Unfortunately, we can't find anyone who installs these liners over gunite. They all want to re-build the pool.
Does anyone have experience with this? Any recommendations?
