Pump wouldn't suck water, water in basket SUPER hot

Heard a weird noise coming from pump. Went to investigate and wasn't primed. Worked fine on the morning cycle today. Unscrewed the basket lid and the water was literally smoking and super hot. Had to let it pull from hot tub and pool to get it to fill back up. Cleaned out the basket turned it back on pulling from pool only and it filled like normal, almost...

Now there is air bubbles in the basket. It almost gets to normal pressure but not quite. Pump is not that old with new bearings this winter. Has worked without issue until just now. I am selling my house in a week.

Any ideas on what usually causes this or where to start?

If it primes on the spa but does not stay primed on the pool, it is probably a clog in the pool suction line. Did you just do some vacuuming or have a lot of debris in the pool?

No, not recently. I re-lubed the O ring on the basket and closed it right and that seems to have done the trick. I'll keep an eye on it and keep the clogged line in mind if it acts up again.

That could be it. The spa has less suction than the pool so air is more likely to leak in pool mode than spa mode.
