does stabilized chlorine last longer?

everyone who follows pool store's recommendations thinks it does. If it really does, is that only because it takes longer to dissolve?

What do you think of the statement below? (copied from intheswim) If smaller dosage is used to raise FC by 2ppm, does it really matter if it's a "shock" type or not?

All pool shock granular products should be used for superchlorination, and not as an every day chlorinating method. The burn rate is very fast, and like eating Chinese food – your pool is soon hungry for more.

I'm using liquid and know all the side effects of CYA, but I just wonder if if "Stabilized chlorine" is just a fancy term, while it's nothing more than stabilizer + chlorine

Thanks
