Trying to SLAM...mainly due to algae problems

Here is what I started with for numbers.
Basic chlorine 5
PH 7.8
FC 5
CC 0
TA 220
CH 110
CYA 30

8/25 7pm

Ive been battling algae all summer on the bottom.

I added 75oz of 7.8% bleach and will test again at 8pm.

Good idea. Much easier to follow progress and make recommendations if you post up all the test results and dosages.

Oh, remember you are supposed to lower the pH before starting to SLAM. As long as the FC is under ten, get that pH down between 7.2 and 7.4

So I threw in some PH minus stuff based on my ph test numbers at 7pm and will assume its in range since my FC is now 16. Not sure why its so high when I measured based on calculator.

pH reads artificially high when FC>10. Very likely, your pH was fine where it was, and is currently too low.

Where do you get that? Started at 7.8, adjusted the pH down and also added chlorine. No mention of a second pH test.

I assume the confusion was why the FC is so high. Maybe either the bleach was strong, the pool is smaller than you think, or both, or a testing error.

Mis-read that to mean that another pH test was taken and pH read high. Thanks for the clarification Jason.

So at 8pm im back down to FC of 8 and Ph is 7.5. Why did my FC drop so fast in 2hrs??? Sand pump has been running 24hrs and stuff on bottom is getting worse.

Because you have stuff in the pool consuming it.

What 2 hrs? Looks like it's more like 24 hrs. And why did you assume its in range because your FC was 16? Did you do a second pH test before you added the bleach? If so, what were the numbers?

Yes. You claim 2 hours, but did not post for nearly a day. I don't understand either.

Are you following the SLAM process? Testing and adding more chlorine every few hours?
