That would be dictated by local pool/budding code. But if you are going to set your pool up against the deck to use the existing deck as a pool deck I don't see a problem with that.

Unless your deck is round, then a round pool will not fit snugly against it 
Thai leaves an oval pool, but you have to get the butresses in place to do that.
Can it be done - sure, but there are number of factors you need to account for - where you deck footings are, how high your deck is (in relation to the height of the pool), what sort of under deck access you have, if your deck is canteleavered at all, etc.
It may require just some simple modifications to the deck, or it may require a lot of modifications.
