Booster pump with external garden hose?

Hello,

Our previous home owner had set up his Polaris 280 pressure cleaner with a booster pump, but he did not have a dedicated line running to the pool. So, he simply hooked up a common garden hose to the booster pump, and that hooks up the Polaris' white floating hose.

I've noticed that booster pump instructions say to run the pump through a 1.5" dedicated line. My question is, is it OK to run a pressure cleaner this way through a garden hose? Or am I loosing a ton of performance? Or is there another factor to all this?

If it's simply a matter of aesthetics, then a garden hose doesn't bother me as I can easily move if out of eyesight.

Any input would be greatly appreciated!

I have my doubts, but it might work. You ware going to have a lot more resistance to the flow through the smaller hose so you may not have enough flow for the cleaner. Additionally, I am not sure how high the pressure runs and what the garden hoses are designed to withstand.
