Help: sand or dirt or debri back in pool afrter vacuuming

I'm struggling with a similar problem. My pool looks great other than debris in the bottom....just in the collection areas. When I go to vacuum it I see it coming back in the pool. I've tried to vacuum on 'waste' and it seemed to help a little. This process is maddening....I hear laterals and multiports mentioned......don't know what those are. I guess I need to get to where I know more about my pool system. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The fact that you have a "waste" setting indicates that you have either a sand filter or a DE filter.
Are there any labels which can help to identify the equipment that you have? You could take pictures of your set up and post them here, we would then be able to assist you better.

I vacuum to waste after a big rain storm and I need to drain water off my pool. Usually once a month

Can you post a set of current test results? That's the first step. Also a pic of your water is often helpful
