What do you think:...??

I am going away for 6 weeks starting in a week. No one to maintain pool on a regular basis during that time. How do you feel about this product? They claim it is not the same as tri-chlor and all of its problems.....what do you think? (see below product description) Thanks!

Calcium Hypochlorite 3 Inch Tablets 55 Lbs.

Description of Calcium Hypochlorite 3 Inch Tablets 55 Lbs.

These 3 Inch Calcium Hypochlorite tablets are a slow dissolving tablet with 68% Cal Hypo. It is a multi-purpose chlorinator that controls algae and kills bacteria. Calcium Hypochlorite (Cal Hypo) is a versatile and effective chemical for delivering chlorine into water. It is more pH-friendly than chlorine gas, liquid bleach or trichlor tablets, requiring fewer adjustment chemicals which in turn makes water balance easier to achieve.

Cal hypo tablets are not recommended as they tend to dissolve too fast and become a gummy mess unless you have a special feeder. They also add CH which is not good when it gets too high, just like high CYA is not good.

6 weeks is way too long to go with no attention to the pool and expect it to remain clear.

Load up on trichlor pucks in a feeder (or 3), knowing that your CYA will jump up and you might get 2-3 weeks while you're away. If you have a winter opaque cover, that would really help. Cover it if at all possible. Outside of that, hiring a pool service or trusty neighbor/relative and tell them what to do.

If you decide to use this product, you cannot put it in a chlorinator or floater that has had trichlor or dichlor in it. There will be an adverse chemical reaction and possible fire as a result. Cal-hypo tablets are not slow dissolving and tend to leave a gummy mess behind. They will also add calcium to your water, which you may not need. 6 weeks is a long time, and no tablet is going to last that long. Can anyone check the pool while you are gone? If not it would be better to raise it to shock level and cover it.
