    Frequency of adding acid

    I have a SWG pool, with the following attributes to the water:

    TC = 4, FC = 3.5, CC < 0.5
    CH = 410, TA = 70, CYA = 45
    pH = want to sit around 7.8+
    Borates = 0

    I therefore spend my time adding around 20 fl oz of Muriatic Acid every couple of days to bring the pH from 7.8+ down to 7.5- 7.6.

    I am in a hot climate in Houston, and the pool has a waterfall from the Spa to the pool, which aerates the water (raising pH I guess).

    A few questions:

    1) Should I just let the pH site at the high end at 7.8?
    2) Is adding acid that frequently common or indeed advised?
    3) I have been thinking of adding Borax to buffer this pH rise - would that be advised or work?
    4) Is my TA in a recommened level for all this?

    Thanks in advance for any help anyone can provide.

    Re: Frequency of adding acid

    1) If is stays at 7.8, you will be fine for a while until you CH rises much more. Just keep it below 8 for now.
    2) A SWG and spillover aerate the water and thus drive the pH up.
    3) That could help and luckily you already have your TA down to a reasonable level.
    4) Yes, see the Adding Borates sticky.

    You could raise the CYA up a little more and then maybe lower the SWG output some which should reduce how fast the pH rises some.
