Ascorbic acid treatment and non chlorine shock

Does an ascorbic acid treatment consume non chlorine shock like it consumes regular chlorine? Would using this be an option instead of algaecide to ensure no algae bloom during an AA treatment?

I believe it does since ascorbic acid is a reducing agent and non-chlorine shock is an oxidizer. The only reason it wouldn't is if the kinetics for the reaction were unfavorable but I doubt that's the case. Also, non-chlorine shock (MPS) doesn't prevent algae that much. The use of Polyquat algaecide is the best approach and why we recommend it during an AA treatment.
