Alternatives to DE powder?

Are products like Jacks Magic "The Filter Fiber Stuff", as good or better than straight DE fiber powder?

If not, which DE filter fiber should I be adding after back washing?

It's just another brand of cellulose

I've used other brands for a couple years now with no problem.

Are any 'safer' than another and better for the environment/kids?

Cellulose fiber is safer and better for the environment. It's fully biodegradable and as a bonus it filters better than DE. The brand doesn't seem to matter. I've used several brands and except for price they were all the same.
