My Salt Pool salt cell protector

On the shelf at Wal-Mart I found a product called "salt cell protector" under the brand name "My Salt Pool." The label does not list the ingredients. Mysaltpool.com does not list the ingredients either. Does anyone know what is inside this bottle? It's a 1 quart bottle and claims to treat 10,000 gallons at start up or 1/2 a quart once a month for maintenance. The label and the website claim that it prevents build up of scale on electrolytic cell.

If they will not tell you what is in it, why would you want to add it to your pool?

Could be some kind of borate product.

Sounds nasty. I wouldn't want to swim in it.

That hazardous material fact sheet says it has "etidronic acid" and "2-Butenedioic acid (2Z)-, homopolymer", both at 10%-30% weight percent.

    Any clue what those are?

I agree with bobodaclown. Pool snake oil. It won't be going in my pool.

    Snake Oil has different packaging.

That's respectable "snakeoil", they tell you what it is! I can appreciate that, I hate the hidden snakeoil and hidden (actually found) snakes. LOL
