winter pool cover do I need one

I live in southwest texas, I have a supersplash above ground pool do I need to cover the pool? Can I make my own pool cover?

Welcome to TFP!

There is no need for a cover during swim season. You don't really need a cover during the winter either, though I recommend using one. A cover makes it easier to remove debris that would otherwise accumulate in the pool.

Hi Marymarm, I live approx. 9 hours north of you, also in southwest(my wife is from El Paso), my suggestion is get a solar cover, cut it fit your pool,leave it on all winter,water will never freeze, you very rarely hit the freezing temps, cover will keep the dust and dirt out, specifically in the spring you know what I mean. we do have a hard freeze up here it only lasts a couple of months though!!

I covered my pool last winter, what a PITA! This year I am buying a leaf net or leaving it open.
