Need education on the different between raising TA and PH

    Hello
I've been in the forum for some time, and I've read pool school thoroughly. However, I remain confused on the difference between raising pH and raising TA. My memory from chemistry is that water is either basic (alkaline) or acidity, and the number that tells you that is the pH. So is making the water more alkaline (aka raising TA) not the same as raising pH? Or am I mistaken? In pool school both of those topics have separate and distinct paragraphs, therefore I assume they must be unrelated.

    Thanks

Let's just forget about raising taxes and focus on ph and TA.

They work hand in hand and the TA buffers the pH and keeps it stable. Your goal for TA is anywhere between 80-110 or so with a pH from 7.2-7.8, no higher or lower. The higher the TA the more the pH will swing and become unstable and high. Lower TA will cause the opposite effect.
I'd bet you my bikini you'll never get TFP water from a pool store!

Thank you. My phone autocorrected ta to taxes, and I didn't notice.
