What kind of motor does the "newer" variable speed perm magnet pumps use

See how expensive they are. It seems to me much of the expense is in the fact that they have a digital computer circuit and a perm mag motor. Is the motor simply a DC "type" treatmill motor. Because if this is the case you can get them pretty cheap and then use a Full Wave Rectifier to the motor.

The motors are designed specifically to work with a VFD to minimize arcing. They have a PM rotor and a winding stator but effectively they are AC driven albeit PWM AC. So no the motor is not a common treadmill motor nor is the drive a simple full wave rectifier. The drive is a VFD which converts the AC to DC but then converts the DC to a PWM waveform. I would love a 3 phase pump. Problem is, I am probably in the very small minority of homes that have 3 phase.

    How about a 240 pump v.s. a 115?

All but the smallest 2 speed and all the VS pumps are 230 volt.
