    First Time SLAMing

    I've jumped right in after receiving my 1st TF-100 test kit.

    7/21 ~ 7:00 PM
    FC = 6
    CC = .5
    CH = 450
    TA = 50
    CYA = 50

    Therefore, SLAM FC Goal = 20

    7/22 BOUGHT LOTS OF BLEACH!

    7/22 ~ 8:00 PM
    FC = 4.5
    CC = .5
    CH = 300
    TA = 60
    CYA = 50

    8:15 PM
    Added 363 oz 8.25% bleach
    Added Baking Soda (donít recall exact amount but followed Pool Math)

    9:00 PM
    FC = 20.5

    11:15 PM
    FC = 18.0
    Added 113 oz 8.25% bleach

    7/23 ~ 6:30 AM
    FC = 18.5
    Added 64 oz 8.25% bleach

    6:30 PM
    FC = 17.0
    Added 121 oz 8.25% bleach

    7/24 ~ 12:15 AM
    FC = 17.5
    Added 121 oz 8.25% bleach

    6:30 AM
    FC = 23.0

    9:30 PM
    FC = 15
    CC = .5
    CH = 250
    TA = 90
    CYA = 50
    Added 185 oz 8.25 bleach

    10:45 PM
    FC = 21

    7/25 ~ 6:30 AM
    FC = 21.5
    tested again to double check
    FC = 21.5

    Three questions:
    1) Is it possible for FC to go up over night like that?
    2) After testing for FC, I have noticed a couple of times that after the test sample has set for a minute or two, it turns back to slightly pink. Is this normal or am I performing the test incorrectly?
    3) I know the best place to draw the pool water sample is from a foot under the surface of the pool. Is it better to pull near a return jet or away from a return jet?

    I do still have a floater in the pool with chlorine pucks. They are mostly dissolved...was just waiting for them to be completely gone before removing and trashing (for good).

    Welcome to TFP!!!

    Congrats on taking control and getting a test kit and starting to SLAM all before posting a question, Thanks!!!

    Your questions:
    1) No. Maybe the water was not thoroughly mixed or could be within the testing error. .... OH just read to the end, if you have pucks in the pool, then the FC could have gone up from them dissolving overnight.
    2) That is normal. The FC and CC tests should be done fairly quickly and then any further return to color can be ignored.
    3) I like to try to pull from a fairly "dead" area of the pool, thinking it might be worst case where the FC could be lowest. Really most important to just be consistent.

    How does the water look?

    Re: First Time SLAMing

    Water looks great! Before starting the SLAM, had some light green algae but that is gone. Been battling some light black algae for two years but with this new method, I'm confident I can get rid of it once and for all. I'll trash the pucks when I get home tonight (for good).

    Since I lost no FC overnight, is it fair to say the SLAM is complete?

    No reason to throw them away. They will save for years and you can use them if when you need a bump to the CYA.

    You cannot say you are SLAM complete because pucks are adding FC, therefore your OCLT is invalid.
