Intelliflo and a mechanical timer

Is there anything wrong with connecting both the pump and the SWG to the Load side of a intermatic mechanical timer? The Intelliflo manual says its system clock can store the correct time for up to 96 hours after power is shut off. I've noticed that when I kill the breaker and power it back on while the pump is running, it starts back up with a power Fault, but after a few seconds it starts up and resumes operation based on the clock. So if this is the case why couldn't you use the mechanical clock to keep them both in sync? Would it hurt the pump to power it on and off every day like that?

I should add that if I did this I would program the pump to run 24 hours per day and then let the mechanical clock turn it on and off.
