Bought the house a little over a year ago. Always noticed after heavy rains that the pool level drops back down to the lip inside the skimmer. I circled it in red on the photo. Is this an intentional gap built in the skimmer to prevent over flow? Or has the plastic separated and it is now just a leak when the pool level gets really high?
Skimmer drains down, normal or cracked?

That water level looks really high, and it looks to be going over the top of the skimmer. Your water level should be about halfway up the opening from the pool to the skimmer. Any higher and the skimmer won't be effective because nothing will float through the opening to get into it.

Did the water have enough time to evaporate by any chance? Was there anything that could've caused a little of the water to splash out?
