Somewhat OT - why SWG rather than SG or SWCG?

A little pet peeve of mine - why is the abbeviation SWG generally used? Doesn't that mean salt water generator? And the unit isn't generating salt water, it is generating chlorine from salt water so shouldn't it be SWCG? And if people are lazy and can't be bothered with too many letters than why not go down to SG especially since saltwater is often written as one word, espeically when used as an adjective?

Ah the great imponderables, why are we here, what is for dinner, and what do we call salt systems? All such questions are answered by the collective unconscious. We type what we type and over time we converge on a solution. There must be reasons, but it grows out of a complex organic many person process, so who is to say what those reasons were. SWG is just what we all ended up typing.

    Good answer
Look at the keyboard ... certainly easier to type SWG than SWCG ... that jump from W to C is a little awkward

If you only use one finger, I guess that's right.

You think I could respond as fast as I do using only one finger?
Put your left ring on the W and try to put you left middle on the C at the same time ...

AHA, one of the reasons I have an ergonomic keyboard! Also, I tap my keyboard so I don't need to put them on at the same time.

As humans, we love three letter abbreviations; SWG, BBB, TFP, CYA, CIA, FBI, LOL, ***, FTW, NBA, NFL, MLB, PGA, PBA, PBR, etc.

PBR like Pabst Blue Ribbon. Since my Stroke in 2000, I don't touch type as well as I did before. That happened about a month before my thesis was due for my Masters. Not good!

sounds like something Geroge Carlin would come up with.....you know....the hot water heater, why does hot water need heating?
